Assignment One FBB

  1. We began with the idea of a Lego. Given the constraints of our one-part mold, however, this form was an impossibility. In response to these constraints, we chose a form that could stack on itself along multiple axes. Namely, the form is diagonally symmetrical to allow for nesting. The positive cast shares the exact surface with the negative mold. We prioritized stacking and repetition in the vertical direction over the horizontal. The pieces can be vertically stacked in several ways varying from tightly nested to pocketed with space. The surface texture was created solely by the passes of the end-mill to add a carved layer to what was a smooth digitally modelled surface. We picked two points (one at the center of each void) as the center points for two radial finish passes with a 1/2" end-mill.
