Assignment 1: Christine Nasir and Ray Ho

  1. We wanted to build our milling geometry exclusively out of contour paths, rather than surface paths, as a way to play with "drawing" with the end mill. The details of process and geometry are indicated in our images above.

    We encountered difficulties in separating the cast from the mold, due to not accounting for a draft angle and for difficult geometry. The geometry was a stretch, but it was meant to push the limits of this particular type of casting. Although the mold for the Parametric Coral ended up being a disposable mold, it did produce a very complex and interesting shape, and with a little more paperclip cleaning, the blue foam could easily be removed from the cast.
